HOW TO KEEP Winter Clothes and Wash Woolen Fabrics?

curious news

We are entering the sweater season, I personally adore them and prefer them to knitting artificial fabrics that do not have the same insulating qualities. I like large-knit sweaters and almost always get questions: "How can you not be cold when there are holes in your sweater?" and I jokingly answer that "out of so many holes, the cold can not decide which one to go through", but the truth is that natural fabrics are very different from the clothes that fill stores nowadays.

Natural fabrics do not cause allergies, are not treated with harsh chemicals, do not stink and do not brew. Their only drawback is that you can not just throw them in the washing machine, but require slightly special maintenance techniques. (especially if you don't have an ultra-modern washing machine, because I'm sure the technique has gone quite far).

1. How often woolen fabrics are washed:

- clothes made of clean wool do not need frequent washing, because the wool has the ability to self-clean. It does not brew and does not retain aromas, it works well ventilation of fresh air. For this is a preferred fabric for making clothing for climbers. How exactly to wash the wool anyway? It's best if it's on hand. Wool is always washed with warm water, not hot or cold. To a large extent, this also applies to factory-branded clothes containing wool, it is also best to wash them manually. Use only a detergent that is indicated to be designed to wash woolen fabrics and water up to 30 degrees. Also do not rub or crush the garment, but just gently rub and let it soak. The alkaline ingredient in the preparation is the enemy of protein fibers, so thoroughly rinse the woolen clothes until clear water flows out of them. You can also put a little vinegar in the water in which you rinse the clothes to neutralize the detergent.

2. Dry cleaning or in a washing machine:

- as it has probably become clear to you the washing machine better not use it especially for 100% woolen products, if you do not feel like washing by hand always turn on a low temperature 30 degrees and a program for washing wool or delicate fabrics. Using detergent for the type, clothes you wash. Sometimes it is necessary to use dry cleaning, especially for coats and large vests that would be difficult to wash at home.

3. The right way to dry sweaters:

- it is best to do this in the air without being directly in the sun, and drying with direct heat better forget it, because it can lead to shrinkage of clothes. For clothes made of felt, an iron with steam heated to about 150 degrees can be used, it is also good that the garment is not completely dry or the effect will be imperceptible.

4. How to care for cashmere:

- in cashmere, things sit in an improved way, again it is good to let it ventilate before washing. When washing it, let the water not be more than 20 degrees. Also soak up the moisture and do not squeeze it so that it does not stretch best let it dry on a flat surface.

5. How to remove the balls from the woolen fabrics:

- you may know about the razor number, it is effective, but it is also quite dangerous, but it is also quite dangerous. You can easily ruin your sweater with just one wrong move. It is best to use the appliances designed for this purpose that run on batteries and remove very well formed ugly puffs on the fabrics,

6. On a hanger or folded in the wardrobe: since the wool undergoes easy deformation the best way it can be stored is folded on a shelf in the cabinet, because with long hanging from the hanger it can stretch irreparably in the shoulder area.

7. How to protect the sweater from moths:

- The easiest and most natural way is through bags filled with lavender placed in the wardrobe between the woolen fabrics. Do not forget to put such bags in the cabinet with woolen odelabra or knitted socks from grandmother.

8. How to "repair" the loose parts of the sweater:

- for me, most often these are either the sleeves or the side of the sweater. If it happens to you, you can try to dip the stretched part in hot water to shrink the tissue, it works, but does not prevent relaxation. Be careful not to hold it too long, because it may shrink more than expected!

9. If the sweater has already shrunk:

- if it has happened so that the sweater has shrunk during the laundry, you can try this number. Soak it in lukewarm water and add 4-5 tablespoons of hair conditioner. Leave it on for about 1 hour. Then rinse it and leave it on a terry towel, slightly stretching the shrinking parts. It won't be like new, but it definitely helps.

10. If a loop appears: - I am tempted to say: "in that case, it is best to give it to your grandmother!", but this is not always possible anyway. In this case, you need to sew the stitch by turning the sweater and working on the inside (in the case of hand-knitted sweaters) at the factory ones the probability of being able to return its old look is close to 0, so you may want to consider some application or embroidery to make on the torn area, if of course it allows it. And if not, then this is a mourning day for your wardrobe.

If you also use any special techniques or have tips on how your favorite sweater to live longer, you can share them in the comments!

I've mentioned many times that I prefer to wash by hand (I know what it sounds like :D) but this is a good way to keep your favorite clothes in excellent condition for as long as possible!
